Battery by Zoë Maunder

Edinburgh-St Augustines United Church- 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EL

BATTERY by Zoë Maunder is an abstract exploration of human nature and relationships.

Inspired by the things that keep us captive—either by our own letting or otherwise— this bold new play draws us into a semi-surreal world where characters inhabit unusual spaces. A statue debates its own existence, A woman searches for love from her teacup home, and human connections are tested in shifting landscapes. Each story asks us to question how our surroundings affect the way we live.

Directed by Elsa Booij and Courtney Bassett, BATTERY is full of wonder and truth, capturing the tension between freedom and confinement. With echoes of existential poetics and raw vulnerability, this experimental piece blurs the lines between the ordinary and the extraordinary, leaving audiences to confront the cages they build and the choices they make within them.

A daring examination of humanity’s yearning for connection and freedom, BATTERY invites you to step into a world as unsettling as it is beautiful. Prepare for a journey that lingers long after the final image fades, evoking the sharp introspection of Samuel Beckett and the surrealism of Caryl Churchill.
